I have spent over half my life in the music industry, doing nearly every job there is to do (without getting loved back). I have worked as a critic and journalist, as well as in record retail, radio, television, records, and artist management. After radio stints at WJPZ/Syracuse, Hot 97/New York, and KPLZ/Seattle, I became the program director at the legendary Top 40 station KUBE/Seattle, achieved some high ratings and overall hilarity in the age before certain large companies decided radio would be better off with niether. In 1998, I joined the team that was overhauling Viacomâ??s struggling VH1 network. After two years of life Behind The Music, I left to become senior vice-president at Sonyâ??s Epic Records, where I reported directly to the label president on all aspects of day-to-day operations. I also oversaw Epicâ??s New Media department (qualification: I could turn on my own computer) and worked with such artists as Pearl Jam, Oasis, Ozzy Osbourne, Tenacious D, Travis, Sade, Mandy Moore, Incubus and the Indigo Girls. Since leaving Epic, I have started Blue Team Music Management and Consulting, where my clients have included The Presidents of the United States of America, My Vitriol, Slender Means and various media entities. I have also worked for Dave Matthews' ATO Records. Previously, my writing has been published in Rolling Stone, Hits, and several local newsweeklies and music industry trades. My head has appeared talking on countless VH1 programs and for a while in 1999 was the regular music commentator for CBSâ?? Early Show, hosted by Bryant Gumbel.
