My earth day began in Chicago, IL. where I grew up on the Westside I've been writting since I was 7/8 years old in grammar school now that I look back. I'd read all of the Nancy Drew Mystery Books and True Romance Magazines my mom had lying around. I loved me some True Romance Stories. My first little story was based on the True Romance Stories I'd read in the magazine. I've always dreamed of becoming a writer even before I understood all that I was reading just holding a book generated a feeling to write like that.
It wasn't until late 60's that I came across the writtings of famous poets from the Harlem Renaissance: Langston Hughes, Richard Wright, Gwendolyn Brooks, Nicki Giovanti,Jean Toomer just to name a few. Their stories plays, poems and essays influenced me to create poetry and stories like them and then came Donald Goines he ignited my writting fire. Through these extrodinary writers I found my pen voice and found the talent I had for expressing the feelings and emotions of others.
I can feel the joy, pain, sorrow, anger, happiness, and love. I enjoy the feeling writting poetry gives me. I've never been published and posting and sharing my poems online is a first for me. I am currently putting together a collection of my poems and an seeking representatoin for a book publication. I have viewed many of the featured poets and writers here and find then to be outstanding. I'm sure my journey here will be quite rewarding.
