Writing isn't safe; not completely. Words, when properly grouped, can make the heart ache and the soul weep.
The reader feels that pain of loss or loneliness, but the writer felt it first and most profoundly. The writer assembled it from pieces of their past and bits of their shattered psyche. With love they built a pyre for their shared pain.
If you must feel for the writer, feel pity. Pity the wretch who can show you such anguish and make you feel it against your will.
I write because I cannot live. I love on paper because loving in person never ends well. Misery is the sweetest lover and kindest muse. Commit to pain and write an ode to Love.
Or maybe I'm completely wrong.
PS
I'm not nearly so depressing in person ;)
