Jessica Slentz grew up in a family of artists who all talk at once, laugh loudly and see the world a bit differently, perhaps, than most. She quite often forgets that life is not a musical and has been known to break into song and dance in public places. She once kept chickens in her living room...not by choice. As a teenager, she ran a long-running circus out of the basement with her brothers and cousins â?? as well as a temporary musical review company, but ticket sales were down that summer, so they moved on to silent film and Star Wars remakes. The costume chest and spotlights are still there.
In a burst of â??practicalityâ??, Jessica decided to follow her other love and write. In pursuit of her dream, she is currently studying for her MA in Creative Writing at Kingston University, London, and writing poetry, focusing on form, process and performance.
For a long time the written poem was a mnemonic device, and the spoken poem was the poem itself.
