Grew up in New England, in a far away place; both in location and time from where I am now. The Farrelly brothers were among my favorite five. You know, some of the things they wrote about actually happened.
I stayed back in high school, thinking I had missed something, turns out the only thing I missed was enlisting with the navy to run a nuclear submarine the last year of the war. Patriotism wasn't as big then as it is now.
Graduated from high school and went to learn camping with NOLS in Wyoming for my senior trip. Somewhere out there, I forgot about the war. Seems like when I forget about something, it stops.
Visited Oregon in 1975; eventually met the right people, wrote lots of poetry, drank a lot of coffee, gave the poems away cause we didn't have enough to tip the waitress, let my friends get me high, and discovered they were not interested in my stories. Stayed poor for something like seven years. Decided to move back east after St. Helens blew her top. Dad bribed me with a car to come east; i still have the car, but lost contact with the 300 or so folks I knew from those days.
Lived outside of New York City for a year, earning the right to the claim that "if you can make it in New York, you can make it anywhere".
Finally settled in Ohio, learned how to protect the natural world while drilling for oil in college, but never really found work once I finished school. Seems like every time I go to school for something everybody else is in school for, the bottom drops out of that market.
Feeling greatly discouraged, I'm now seeking the simple life on what may one day become a farm.
In a dream they said if anyone asks, I should tell them I'm a writer.
John Marzocchi's Genres: Generally, topics arising from memories; describing a world that is yet to be.
