We are a paying market, and this is our pay scale is as follows:
- Articles/Criticism - $80 flat rate (2500+ words)
Do not confuse a review with a criticism. If you wish to submit an article/criticism that you havenā??t written already, please contact me first (heliotropeditor@gmail.com) to see if we would be interested.
- Reviews - $20 and every review after the first I wills supply you with the book to be reviewed (1200+ words)
Iā??m looking for an opinion - your unique perspective - on a book. This can include, but not be limited to a summary. Iā??m also looking for topical works, so not something that has been reviewed 1000ā??s of times (although one could write an article/criticism on such a book) already. Now it could be topical due to a recent movie adaptation (V for Vendetta for instance) or recently winning some accolade (Booker, etc), or simply be a release in the last year or so. I love China Mievilleā??s work, but the world doesnā??t need another review of Perdido Street Station.
Art: We want to accompany both the online and print versions of the zine with different art for each issue. If you are an artist and this sounds like something you be interested in, please contact Damon (who will handle this matter) at admin@fantasybookspot.com.
Short Fiction: Short fiction: Due to spacing issues, I simply canā??t accept anything over 7,000 words, and we will pay 5 cents a word with a minimum payment set at $55. Again, Iā??m not going to limit what type of work we are looking for, Iā??m more interested in your voice than chosen format. If you send fan-fictionā?¦I will kill you! I have received some questions about what Iā??m looking for, so let me just try to be clear. I like a little bit of everything, and Iā??m not going to narrow down what we accept because of that. If I donā??t love it, itā??s not getting bought - thatā??s it. I have interests in every corner and alley that encompasses Fantasy/Science Fiction/Horror. Iā??m looking to be amazed, haunted and/or moved! Iā??m looking for individuality both in style and concepts.
Columns: If there are industry professionals (authors etc) or other notables (contact me), who are interested in doing a column, please contact me to discuss it and payment.
All participants will be able to have a short bio following their work, in which they can say just about anything, be it plugging a personal website, or whatever you choose.
We require all submissions (whether fiction or non-fiction) to be original and previously unpublished (that includes online). We require exclusive publishing rights for 90 days, and would hope you would allow us to maintain the work for our archives. Send all non-art related submissions to me at heliotropeditor@gmail.com.

Submission Format: This has been brought up the most, and to be honest I havenā??t been able to establish a preference yet, so there is no standard format Iā??m looking for. This may change in the future, but for now just email it to me and let me handle the rest. Also, we accept submissions from people of all countries.
Response Time: I will get back to you within 2 weeks, definitely before 3 week regarding short fiction submissions. Regarding articles/reviews, no more than a couple of days to a week.
Payment: Will be done via Paypal or check.
