Identity Theory accepts short fiction, nonfiction, poetry, interviews, reviews, editorials, photography, art, music, and just about anything else that can be made digital.

Identity Theory is read by thousands of people a day, from hip web surfers to fellow aspiring artists to well-established writers and publishers. It is quite possibly the perfect audience for any writer looking to gain exposure. Press outlets that have mentioned Identity Theory include the New York Times, Boston Globe, Chicago Tribune, Washington Post, and more.

Please e-mail your general queries to Matt Borondy at submit@identitytheory.com.

Send your fiction to Jane Friedman at fiction@identitytheory.com. (Read our fiction guidelines.)

If your piece is nonfiction, you can send it to Alex Shapiro at mrshapiro@identitytheory.com. (Read a letter from Alex.)

Poetry submissions go to Charles H. Johnson at poetry@identitytheory.com. (Read our poetry guidelines.)

Photography and other visual art can be zapped over to Lisa Szkatulski at szkat@identitytheory.com.

Identity Theory is seeking music writers for its newly relaunched music section. Email Irene Yadao at music@identitytheory.com.

Please include the following info with your submission(s):

1. Your Name
2. E-mail address (and note whether or not you want it posted)
3. A short bio (about 50 words or less)
4. Your homepage and links to some of your other work online (if applicable)

It would also be cool if you mentioned how you found the site.

You will retain the copyrights to your material, and your bio, links, and e-mail will be included with your work. Everything is kept online for as long as you wish, so you get a static URL that you can link to on your resume or your website.

That's about all there is to say about that. If you have any questions, e-mail Matt.

Thanks!

Notes Regarding Submissions

Due to the nature of revenue generation on the internet, we cannot pay for writing at this time.

It is not generally acceptable to send simultaneous submissions or previously published work.

We get a high volume of submissions and are running low on space, so it is becoming more common for us to publish things on the Backpage. First-time authors published on the Backpage do not appear in the author database and only have a limited amount of personal information with their work. However, the Backpage is permanent and has a decent readership, so it is nothing to shake a stick at.
