I was born in Johannesburg, South Africa, back in the heday of apartheid.
I went to school in a town called Boksburg and graduated from the Rand Afrikaans University with a Bachelorâ??s degree.
When I finished varsity, I was conscripted by the police force and I ended up writing propaganda for the government.
After four compulsory years in the police, I finally became a journalist. Those were days of great social and political upheaval in South Africa and I watched first-hand as Nelson Mandela walked free and a new country was born. This Madiba's Rainbow Nation.
In the end the good guys won and apartheid ended and democracy was established in South Africa. It was a great time to be South African. It was an even better time to be a journalist. It got me writing.
Today, the New South Africa is over ten years old and we're used to democracy now. To me though, writing remained a passion, it became my craft; I have worked as journalist and editor on many publications in the ensuing years and produced more bottom-drawer manuscripts than I'd like to admit.
Right now, I'm working on a collection of short stories. They're really twisted and I think you should have a look ... I'll be pasting them here.
