Born Agramento Shattercracker to mild-mannered Brummie parents in the long, sticky summer of 1976 during a ladybird swarm I can't remember, I gradually turned into a tall man with a dog, and swiftly deed-polled my name to 'Neil Howard' to ease the search for personalised keyrings in theme park gift shops.
It's worth funnelling me into the fantasy genre, but I'm no wannabe Tolkein, great though he is / was. Someone once called me 'The Attention-Deficit Dickens', and that's kind of a good description.
