Blessed with the curves
Cursed with these wild curls
Got to watch what I eat
And deal with frizzy hair in the heat
Passion seems to be a defining characteristic
Along with attitude
(don’t make me scream at you in Spanglish-it’s not pretty)
Intensity
(I will get what I want)
Nurturing
(I can heal your troubles in two languages)
Don’t know my (Dominican) father
But also don’t know if that’s cause I’m Hispanic
Or cause he just didn’t want to be bothered
Love my flag
And my people
Want to help raise them up
Show the world that we’re all equal
Large family
Full of secrets and lies
But that’s not just Hispanic
So let’s move forward past the why’s
Can move to Spanish music
Though not very well
I was born and raised in America
And in my hips (and accent) you can tell
Can (and will) curse you out in Spanish
Yet prefer to tell you in English
So there is no mistaking
What I’m saying
Soy Boricua, inteligente, bella,
Passionate, intense, driven,
Diferente, y nada me puede mover
Get used to me world cause
I’m staying.
