Greetings,
I am Renée Zelbecq. I was born on Réunion, a French island in the Indian Ocean. Since then I have lived between France and England. Though my first language is French, I write my poetry, my chief source of joy, in English. This largely due to the influence of my father, who is English, and another Englishman whom I met a few years ago, Tom Hosker.
My aim in this site is not so much to make friends, though meeting other poets would be very welcome, but rather to spread the poetry of myself and Hosker.
I will leave you with one of our poems so that you can judge for yourself how good I and Tom are.
Aubade
When I was eight, I once slept top-and-tail
Or rather wept awake, with my mate, in his bed
And, at midnight, up the wooden hill marched dad
Saw my wet head and said, â??You still awake lad?â??
Within the hour I laid in Sueâ??s slumber
Not one angry sound had broke my spoilt world
Hard and colourful, my surrogate mother
Like the curlers in her hair that never curled
Sue, you must guard me now the edges of the blinds
Fade black again and I am terrified and awake
For every sleeper knows the bliss of sense-death
And on each and every stares his friend lame
With envy. You watch them both the same
Making their soft necks tickle with your breath
