Sherasa Thomas, affectionately called Rasa, grew up in Lubbock, a modest west Texas city known for itā??s cotton industry and Texas Tech University. She is the eldest of three children.

Sherasa has always been a writer at heart. She began creating stories at about age 8. As she got older she kept journals, wrote political essays and poetry. ā??Growing up I would write all the time and make my family listen. One of my fondest memories is writing on my dadā??s legal pads. Iā??m addicted to them today for that very reason.ā? Still, it never occurred to Sherasa that she could become a professional writer. Although she was an avid reader, submitted work to her high school and college newspapers, and received positive feedback on her writing; she didnā??t consider writing as a career.

Sherasa left the comforts of her family in Lubbock to pursue her degree at Grambling State University in Louisiana. While there, her love for African American history deepened, she was heavily involved in political activism, and continued to be an avid non-fiction reader and poetry writer. She graduated in the spring of 1996 with a degree in History and married Eric Thomas the following fall. She and her husband moved to Dallas, Texas where Sherasa started teaching and they began a family. Eventually they were blessed with a daughter Zharia and a son Miles.

She spent four years teaching elementary school and five teaching middle school history. Her heart delighted in sharing her love for history with her students. She sponsored girls mentoring programs, Black History events and various extra curricular activities for her students. Her passion translated in recognition by the Daughters of the Republic of Texas giving her the Teacher of the Year award in 2003 to 2004.

In the later part of 2006 she stepped out on faith and decidedto persue her two loves; writing and community envolvement.
