Forgotten Solider

He went proudly into battle for his country,
So sure what he was doing was right,
He knew how to survive and when to fight,
Sadly he was the first in his platoon
To be taken by the enemy
Everyone unsure of how he was or if he was alive
A grieving wife and his best friend struggle to carry on
Months go by without a word - declared M.I.A. so she heard
Comforting each other in their despair
A love grows between two old friends
Starting to heal and carry on with life
Months later a surprise - the forgotten soldier is alive
A POW left behind by the country he loved
Some assumeed he was dead and gone by now
It is not so he was kept alive why they dont know
He is lost somewhere - no one know where
Will he be able to return home to his wife?
Or is his long suffering the last of his life

This poem hit home as I have a younger brother who has been overseas twice now. Very nicely written.

Thank you everyone for your feed back - this is not a poem based on anyone.. Just a very driven piece.
