Life's Itch

I rub my eyes
because they
itch, to erase
what I see.

Even as a child
I'd pull, scratch
till I tear'd up.
Misery whined

life's harshness, bringing
my hands to my face,
rubbing, tugging to block
out the unthinkable.

I pull, scratch
at reality hoping
for relief;
my eyes bleed.

My first thought: Dead Poets Society.

Have you seen the movie? It's wonderful! Highly recommended.

The last line has the reader hanging there, clipping at the pellets of blood running from your eyes. Beautiful! Thanks for the read.

Ears. Aren't they worse?

My MIB's (Men In Black) hide my eyes. Or I can turn my head.

But through your ears, that effing crazy bastard can rape you from the back of the bus.
