I rub my eyes
because they
itch, to erase
what I see.
Even as a child
I'd pull, scratch
till I tear'd up.
Misery whined
life's harshness, bringing
my hands to my face,
rubbing, tugging to block
out the unthinkable.
I pull, scratch
at reality hoping
for relief;
my eyes bleed.
