ODE TO THE HAND

Hands
Hands are marvelous things
People pamper them
Trim the nails at the end of them
Decorate them with fancy glittering rings

Though I've never seen it
People say they sit on them
Have time on them

They can be used for so many different things
Opening and closing doors in our lives
Opening cans and packages
Wrappers
Refrigerators
Letting out our belts when our waist gets too round
They yank
Punch
Slap
Wipe
It would be hard to wash your face without them
It's amazing what all our hands can do

Man uses his hands to play with his
Well you know
Or for that matter woman can use hers to play with her
Well you know
Of course in both cases the hand can get the job done
But still it is never quite like the real thing

And how about those digits
The thumb can talk
Clearly asking for a ride
Back in Nero's time
It determined if a man lived or died
And then there are those fingers
Aunt Bertha's could pinch like hell
So damned hard your little arms would bruise and swell

And boy do they like music
They love to tap
Drum
Snap along with the beat
Mother used to slap them away from your nose

And what about that middle one you use in anger
Some people would like to break it off and shove it up your
Again
Well you know

And we use them to show appreciation
So that is about all I have to say
So clap them together for this shameless use of words about hands
That I so loosely call poetry
Written just for you
By me
