Alternate Reality

I demand a new reality
Go shopping in the space-time continuum
Until I find one that fits.

It takes forever

And when I finally find it
I'm not really sure that I like the pattern.
Is the texture too rough?
Does the color please the eye?
What if another is better
What if I don't find it on this trip?
Could I walk out of this dimension
And see it lying on the subway train
The perfect one
Just waiting for me
Hoping I will recognize it

Take it home
Run it through the wash
Let its wrinkles fall away
Someone asks
'Did you check the label?'
If it wasn't preshrunk
The reality now fits someone else

I try to return it where I found it
But when I go there
The subway is gone.
In its place
An all-you-can-eat smorgasbord
It offers lunch deals
Moments of time
Swallowed slowly
Bite by bite
They add up to a reality of acquired taste

I realize
My desert island
Would serve nothing which required
Acquired Taste

They give me a refund
I take it to the fabric store
I buy a scrap of reality
Irregular
And on sale

It is torn down the middle

Suddenly
A perfect fit
Now I know when I am
But where I am still escapes me

Under a deep blue sky?
Or is it purple
or red
or green?

The sky already fits me well anyway
I wear it instead of shopping tomorrow.

I like this one. Reminds me of horrendous shopping trips where nothing pleases or fits in the way I want it to. Didn't really feel I'd ended up in a different place on the space-time contiuum with you though.
