At the End of Everything

You say there are no absolutes.

Give me time and I will show you
a darkness
that defies that pretty theory.

Do not grow complacent,
for while you sleep...

I am the Joker of the Tarot deck,
the card dealt
at the end of every game:
after the loves and the lovers,
the dreams you had
that were not enough,
the sights you saw,
the confessions you made,
the tears you wept.

After all of this,
I will see you,

at the end of everything.

Pretty scary stuff. Jumps at you with, "I will show you a darkness..." I believe she will - an absolute darkness. Spooky. The work is well paced and nicely bookended by lure and foreboding.

Great images and structure. Powerful. Really focuses all of the meaning into the final bitter stanza. Note to self: never scorn Sarah.

You have quite a way with a metaphor! Excellent

I really like this poem, particularly the references to the darkness, dreams and the "joker of the tarot". it has a very otherworldly feel to it (sort of Gaiman-esque, in a good way)
