Addict

dance with my addiction,
On a floor I can't afford.
My brain and heart in contradiction,
without more I'm simply bored.

The money, the time, the madness,
The loses continually mount.
All to end in such sadness,
More money then I can count.

Dance with me devil,
As I sin and sin again.
You own my soul, you own my everything,
When does my new life begin?

Only God can touch the heart of the addicted. That is all
I can say.

Love the opening stanza.
The second last line of the piece made me think....I envisioned the addiction as an extension of some kind of hurt, scar, flaw or illness of the soul. In other words not as something external starting from a the outside and seeping in, but a manifestation of something seeping out from the soul, a hunger that ends up focused on the object of addiction, latches on and needs to be fed.

only because i'm a freak about spelling..."loses" should probably be losses. and "then" should be than.
aside from that...this is a really great poem. you've definitely captured the ideas and feelings of addiction in this short piece. good write.

I love the opening two lines - really good. The second verse totally encompasses the effects and misery of addiction. I wanted more verses, keep it up.
