Ascend
There is desperation here
in this wasteland where I dream
with soft-eyed vermin
tied up with wire
in trees like mountains.
I am running
blindfolded, barefoot
over hot-white sand
and it screams out
"I'm alive! I'm alive!"
No way to stop me,
propelled by fear
running, escaping from
dark throbbing clouds
and rain that eats my skin.
And I fall into feathers
a smell of porcelain and honey
my hair tangles with the wind
I am all at once
the earth
the sky
and I can fly,
I can fly
Up over my body, into the ocean of space.
Tumbling farther and farther away.
Children on stars claw at my wings
devils on comets snatch at my feet
but I am gone today
no tomorrow
no forever
And I disappear within myself
get lost in my dreams
anguish, sorrow
liquid pain
that puts me to sleep.
