We are but listeners

The pulse of the bass corresponds
With the pulsating of blood -
Throbbing against tender ear drums.

Skin glistens beneath neon lighting -
Pale fingers grasp the smoky air;
Limbs flailing about like drowning bodies.

Between the tracks, we slow and pause:
Faltering; uncertain; unaware -
Our arms fall flaccid to sides.

Riffs fill the static, humid gaps between us
Pulling muscles taught in their femurs,
Raising their hands to the air again.

Jubilant expressions, shouting
The pungent smell of stale perspiration
As endorphins replace the redundant mood.

Being but a listener myself, I absolutely loved this piece. You described the atmosphere of a concert perfectly and created some excellent imagery. I actually wrote a poem about concerts the other day but yours is much better. Haha! Well done. =)

You paint the picture of a crowded, loud concert very well. The words you chose make the subject really come to life. Love the last line.

Hey darlin'!
This is a great poem. Love the visceral feel of it: feel the bass, smell the sweat. Gorgeous. Bookshelving this.
