illness

blood cough petal flower
it's a beautiful disease
you learn of your body's economy
all translated to pain
days dragged through rain
still dirty and insane
like a beggar of a thought
driven to panhandling in hell
to get into heaven

love the imagery of the panhandling 'beggar of a thought'

As a disabled person I know this - too well, and you have caught this brilliantly. I would have been tempted to put; â??to learn ofâ??, a very minor crit. really.

This immediately made me think of mental illness (and I'd rather not explore the reasons). This is the only line I didn't love: "you learn of your body's economy"~~ (I didn't like the "you" and "your")~~something about that jars it out of its intimacy for me.
You are so prolific!! One great poem after another! I can't keep up with you, Paul

that first line came fully into my head -- i only had to work on the rest. for some reason disease seems to be a recurrent theme in my work and i haven't figured that out yet.
