awkward silence

Really rough.. not sure where to go.. please SUGGESTIONS!!!

I really thought I knew her once
Everything about her
Best Friends is what they call it
Inside jokes
Never awkward silence
We shared secrets and wishes
My shadow we called her
Always at my side
Maybe it was really I who was the shadow

Then something changed
I had hard times
I thought my life would fall apart
Still she was always there
Right by my side
Now things are better for me

But we both changed
I saw her less
No fault of ours
Our lives took slightly different paths
Now its less deep.
She respects me. That I can see.
We still laugh and joke
We still plan and dream

But if I ask her. She doesn't share.
There are secrets.
She wants to tell. But we are now so different
She is afraid. Or ashamed.
There is no way to tell.
I miss her.
Though she is still here.

I like the mystery of "then something changed"

Doesnt everything change in life? Sometimes without even being aware of it. So true. I dig the poem.

Your poem makes me want to pick up the phone and find those people that once upon a time i would have killed and died for. Time is a cruel bastard, puts up 'The barrier' (as you call it) with terrifying speed.

Its good to see a poem that isnt the usual teenage agonising. There should be more like this.
Im looking to read them all.

'It happens sometimes. Friends come in and out of our lives like busboys in a restaurant.'

this a poem everyone can compare to. its written very plainly, and obviously, not like theres anything wrong with that....but it gives it somewhat of a conversation feel. with the sentences short and obvious (again nothing wrong!) it makes it seem sadder in a way, like your hurt so bad you cant really express yourself....all n all it has good meaning and pretty much all can relate

Well expressed, IMO. It's hard when that sort of thing happens in real life. This captures it pretty well.
