Wishing Well

Burrowed in the hillside
Of the billowy mountain
Sits a perched wish
But I dare not let it fly
For it's flight
Could disturb the heavens

It passes me
Each longing day
Waiting for the moment
When I toy with fate

It keeps it's gaze
In my mind's eye
Waiting for the day
That I Let it take flight

Finally, I approach it
Feet firmly planted,
I've decided this day
To let my dream fly high

As hands grasp the edge
Of my well's cold cheek
I peer inside
Only to realize
My wish is but concrete

I really enjoyed this poem. While the poem builds in anticipation I think the wish as concrete represents a wish that can never happen. I think this last line fits perfectly and is the point of the poem.

I like the poem but I do not think the last line fits.

Perched wish is a really strong image. Billowy mountain not so. The metaphor of the wish as a sort of bird really works well.

A very good piece of the nostalgia of idly just flicking a copper into the magical well. Its a completely different take of the wishing well from how I have written about, where I have made the coin into a living entity (don't ask why, I think about bizzare stuff all of the time). This is the wishing well according to the wishes and wants of the human spirit.

Cool! Like it!

Smiles all around!
