Once Upon A Time
Once upon a time
There was a beautiful rose
Now it is dry and in decomposition
-That is my mind
Once upon a time
There was strong tree
Now it is weak and useless
-That is my body
Once upon a time
There was a courageous soldier
Now he is imprisoned and tortured
-That is my soul
Once upon a time
There was a happy girl
-That was never me

Completely and utterly straight from the heart - pain and fear, two of the most profound feelings - you can actually feel them moving around inside of you.....beautifully written....Deborah

This poem is not at all about the war in Iraq, I just wanted to make that clear. It's aboput the little girl.

Hope the torture is resolved for those in this state. You paint a bleak picture, but the good thing is that you painted in recognition.

You got it- the fairy tales are bullshit, but nature- the rose, tree, human happiness are cyclical. Draw what you can from the smoke- even second-hand.
