Trickling Stream, Raging Falls

The gentle influence of a rippling brook
splits mountains down the middle.
Etches caverns into towering peaks,
and valleys low.

The immense futility of majestic cataracts
cascading forever on unyielding rocks.
Tremendous in size and unrivaled
in power.

Yet the trickle exerts effects far beyond
the scope of the waterfall's imagination.

I love that last stanza. It speaks to me on another level than just about nature- none of us realize the impact we have or our influence in the world we can make. Beautiful. Yvy

I'm always in awe of the power of water. I like the way you've juxtaposed two forms of it. Nice write. Not sure I understand the word "futility" in that context though.

Something so small can crack a mountain and erode all its jagged edges. What are we capable of?...Are we as powerful as this trickling stream? Great poem Sam! - Leah
