Something Inside Of You Dies

Something inside of you dies
When as a child you see with your own eyes
How cruel and crumbling love can be
When unleashed as hatred inside your family

Something inside of you bends when a trust
Is broken by your justice and your just
And nothing or no-one can build that bridge again
Neither all the king's horses, nor all the king's men

Something inside of you falls apart
With the breaking of a mother's heart
As she plays Danielle in the lion's den
Time after time, again and again and again

Something inside of a son
Forms a person minus-one
Still bearing the battle-scarred shield,
Sheathing the sword, yet forever refusing to yield

Something inside of you dies
When you fail to bid your goodbyes
To a future formed from your past
Where all you have built and become was made to last

This is a beautiful poem, very sad. I really felt the pain in the first stanza.

A gorgeous piece which can only derive from a place so close to a heart that still remembers the turbulance of a past lived. This is so moving and powerful in that it can be a tale for many a person in fear of domestic abuse within a family situation. Bravery and conviction has been shown in this beautiful piece- fantastic!

Good work yet again. A bitter-sweet poem that I enjoyed reading. Good flow and rythem etc. powerful subject matter, one exception the second line of the second verse, it is a bit of a tongue twister.
