A NAKED MAN HAS NOTHING TO HIDE
This story takes place in the Florida Keys. The character is a friend of Captain Nasty. He was, as were most of Nasty's friends, financially challenged. He was walking on the Gulf side of Boot Key Harbor. If any of you haven't been there, that is the location of all the abandoned boats. He found a boat that sparked his interest. He returned with several of his friend and some digging tools. The boat that had been buried in mud and tangled with mangrove roots turned out to be a lifeboat about 28 feet long. Nasty's friend who for the purposes of this story shall be Nameless thought that any lifeboat that made it to shore was the boat for him. With the aid of some cold adult beverages and a lot of sweat, the boat was freed from its resting place and floated to the Dockside Marina. Most of you know about the free table that the Dockside Marina maintains. Among the contents were some bits of cloth from which Nameless thought he could make sails, I think some of the bits were even remnants of sail. This called for another journey to the Gulf side of Boot Key Harbor. There is a stand of lodge pole pines located along this shore. Two of these were selected to form the mast and the boom for the sailboat Nameless saw as his dream boat.Nameless worked dutifully if not at great lengths to complete the boat. He scrounged and collected all of the bits and pieces that comprised his dream boat. Piece by piece his boat took shape. It had a plastic tarp to form a sleeping cabin. A camping sink that included its own storage jug provided his sanitation needs. All that remained was a plan for his maiden sail. Nameless set out on his sai! He chose a voyage to Biscayne Bay. You will understand that for most residents of the Conch Republic, we see this as an international voyage. The voyage was going beautifully. The boat was as wonderful as the weather. Nameless decided to return and celebrate with friends. He was abreast of Soldier Key when he saw every sailors favorite fish, a square grouper. (a plastic bag full of grass) Nameless pulled the square grouper aboard, stowed it in the makeshift cabin, and sailed on to Boot Key Harbor.Moments later Nameless saw a Florida Marine Patrol boat approaching. The boat was flying a huge spray and had all the blue lights flashing. It was manned by two very young patrol officers.Nameless, thinking quickly, stripped completely naked and resumed his position at the tiller standing proud and erect. The approaching officers started looking at each other and Nameless then back at each other. They had settled the boat down to a slow speed by this time as the approached Nameless and his worthy craft. Silently agreeing to a course of action the two young patrol officers throttled up their powerful pursuit craft. The last Nameless saw was their blue lights disapearing in the South.THE MORAL OF THIS STORY IS OF COURSE. A NAKED MAN HAS NOTHING TO HIDE.

"Blue Water Baptism"
"Blue Water Baptism" is my second collection of poems ranging in topic from views on death, God, friendships, and society. These poems were written in the course of ten years and show the "20-something" state of mind that transitions into a "30-something" mentality.
