Epitaph

Every year he put his clock back in hope,

and slept for an extra hour:

when the time came he put it forward again,

with hunched shoulders.

He stared at his alarm clock,

angled away from him;

on every lap, its third hand lost a second on the first half,

but always gained it back.

He stared at time's mouthless face,

and it grinned back at him.

The clock struck.

Your use of symbols gives this piece a feeling of dislocation. "Time's mouthless face... grinned". Paradoxical, yet profound. Like unto Twilight Zone.

Great comparison of visual/tangible time and the time we actually face. The last line is a gem, a pearl -- a full stop that is rarely found (at least by me). Time's mouthless face ... grinned -- amazing play on words and the thoughts this creates. Wonderful work, and I look forward to reading more by you. Keep writing! :)

This is way cool. I like it. The time change always throws me out of whack. This year I was in CA, when the time sprang forward. I thought well, CA time is 3 hours behind my time zone, so the time change won't effect me. But it did, my body still felt the change. LOL
