A Word for an Old Friend

A word for an old friend
Who has tired of his way
Be at ease my brother
You are welcome here to stay

Come sit by the warm fire
Let it lighten up your load
No need to go any further tonight
Down that dusty road

The darkness won't find you now
If only for a while
Warm thoughts and peace of mind
Are brought on by a smile

Let the demons pass a moment
With only themselves for play
Let them haunt one another
No harm will come today

The future won't be so rosey
Of that you can be sure
But those are thoughts for another day
Let them trouble you here no more

In time the old strength will return
Coursing through your veins
And after you feel well rested
It will be time to take the reins

And remember as you go my friend
That though you walk alone
My door is always open
If you ever need a home
