Restless Muse

I went to the sea today,
Reminded me of you.

Looked to the horizon,
Saw vague dark outlines,
Seemed a lifetime away,
Things I could not touch.

The waves caught my reminiscence,
Drew it in like a breath,
Curling under the weight of it,
Thrusting it back.

Flotsam and jetsam, stimuli for the restless sea,
Always craving a friend.
Such a lonely soul, bearing only voyagers,
But hoarding deep secrets.

Devouring the driftwood,
The waves took their leave,
Tugged backwards on a leash,
Leaving me to think.

Now thoroughly upended,
The ridges of my mind dispense all the memories;
Down to my heart they swim,
Floundering like creatures of the ocean.

I went to the sea today,
Reminded me of you.
