her regret

He grabbed her bruatally from behind the neck

And shoved her on to the cold, cold, ground

He did the thing that she'd regret

Then dissapeared, never to be found

She had been walking home like any other day

Singing a tune in her head

Not knowing she was being stalked like prey

Her every step and move he read

He set a trap she'd never have known

She was as innocent as a lamb

She only wanted to make her way home

But what she should have done is ran

Forget about everything around her

Be safe at home in her bed

What happened that night did more then astound her

And she'll never forget what he said

"Cooperate and you won't die tonight"

She valued life so dearly

That she barely gave up a fight

Now she walks around fearfully

Fearful of another masked man

To come and take her pride

She regrets that she never fought and ran

She thinks it'd be better if she'd died

He took a piece she'll never get back

She can never forget that night

And how much it hurts, under attack

And how next time she'll do more then fight

This is a heartbreaking, emotional poem, that makes the reader feel like they are right there in the moment. And that is something, few people are able to really accomplish. Well done!

A truly sad poem, but very well written. Many poets (at least the ones I have talked to) are fearful to write poems about such a touchy and social subject as this. You have taken this situation and put it into perspective greatly. I don't know if this has happened to you, and I pray that it has not, but you have done a great job in putting the reader into this woman's memory. Excellent job.

Oh, by the way - you are my favorite poet as of right now.
