The Easy Ways

The easy way to watch an eclipse is to be the moon when she slides between earth and sun.  The sun will eclipse your darkness and on the other side the earth will eclipse your stars.  You will be far removed from two people sitting on a riverbank talking about their future.  One of them will be me.  Don't try to warn me that nothing will turn out as planned, because I won't listen.  I have love in my ears and it's a kind of wax that I'm always trying to get more of.  Seeing you eclipse my sun, I will not take you as an omen because stupidity sometimes makes me wise.  It makes me disbelieve demons but not yet angels.  That will come later.

The easy way to cook rice is to measure the depth of rice and water in the pan with your finger joints.  I know this from cooking class but I don't know how to do it, so I measure with cups, not flesh and bone.  So all my rice has a slightly bitter taste of frustration.  Every grain represents a tiny failure.  Now that I'm alone again I salt my rice with tears.  It improves the flavor.

The easy way to remove skunk odor from your dog is to keep her away from the beautiful sleek creatures in the first place.  The other three ways are tomato juice, strong black coffee, and time.  Now that I've explained how to fend off the acrid scent of loneliness, did you learn anything?  I never do.

Alas, yet again, my mighty ego collapses and bites the dust. It is ground into the hard reality that there are those like you who have not only mastered words but also dance over them lightly. Such lovely words melt what's left of me into a puddle of admiration.

The inevitability of dejection. I knew for the first sentence that I would be leaving behind familiar points of reference that may provide security, and I joined you completely. I think this is a charming descent. I like each grain of rice, i like ' I never do' at the end.

Could I suggest to change '...but not yet angels. That will come later.' to 'that may come later'? It leaves one with a little hope till the bitter end!

Ah, this comment would not send, and whilst I was watching the screen another word came to me - vulnerability. Thank you!

Original ideas, succinctly presented. Like the idea of the rice having the 'bitter taste of frustration'.
