the silences

although by the muse i'm often bitten
there are poems that will never be written
things i half start and then forget
things i tear up in a moment of regret
things the SI editor decides it hates
and pieces confined to oblivion by the fates

there are many words i put down
like dogs grown sick and tired
combinations of words that make me frown
that seem laboured or uninspired
anyone who thinks here of denial
i shall let go kindly with a smile

we know what we do, what we are
we know where we're going and how far
we want to go, though often not at the time
a harsh phrase soothed by balm of rhyme
yes, many things shall remain unsaid
and many things shall remain unread

A very relatable piece. The rhyming scheme is smooth and flows well with what is being said. I like this one a lot.

Excellent as always and unpredicatable as always!

Excellent Paul. A great satirical piece that is extremely poignant and relevant to the writers of Spoiled Ink.

Very, very complex rhyme scheme: Rhyming couplets for the sextet. Hybird Rhyming couplets and alternating rhyme for stanza 2 and a reversion back into rhyming couplets. Very unusual, but pulled off very well.

There isa nice clean rhyme pattern in this one. I like a flow of it, it marches forward at a good steady pace. Very exacting in its delivery, very enjoyable as well. Great write., great read.

yeah, i like this. a lot of times i think of brilliant one or two-liners that will never belong to anything...just a stack of little papers or space on my computer because i just can't think of anything to equal them.
so...nice, relatable write.

I just can't help associate your fecundity and wit with that of a once young poet gemini who'll soon turn 65, just as he returns to the radio waves as host of his new XM Weekly themed radio show. The same thing that awakened him to the treasures that informed his passions ,in podunk hibbing, in the crisp stillness of very cold nights radio..oh..o..the last stanza he has the same knowing you describe which just makes me must say , Dylan Thomas?
