First Cutting

The smell of mown grass
green on my sneakers
orange waves of air
like melon in my mouth
pushing the old machine
up & down steep banks
grinding scream whirling
cutting thoughts to short
stems chopped cutlets
mindless swerving paths
back overlapping back again
only wanting to avoid
the bees i rammed last year
the incensed stream
chasing me to the house
today there is no break down
no unseen stump or sudden rock
only the soft flow of wash
around moorings the clouds
bending low to kiss the mouth
of Penobscot Bay a couple
walking arm in arm turning
the corner of Pierce Street
onto Water while I mow
making the world green again
above their heads

Really enjoyable descriptions. Smells sounds and visions of summer painted well here, I love the bees chasing you last year. Well written, no wasted words at all. Enjoyed it.

The everyday epiphanies-you can turn the small and local into the universal.

You have a great gift of bringing the reader straight into the writing, Judy. There's a lovely flow throughout the lines. Enjoyed this.

I like how you take everyday things and compose them into poems. You often write about things I never give a second thought making me stand still and re-evaluate it's significance. I personally love the smell of freshly cut grass and enjoyed this poem a great deal. Interesting combination of words you use here, quite effective.

This is great. You have the description, which everyone can identify with, and make it lyrical. I can hear the lawn mower through your words.
