Crucifix.

Blood stained wood and broken souls
blistered skin on burning coals,
blinding sunshine in your face
and no-one sang Amazing Grace.

Shadow of the cross that falls
upon your crumbling holy walls,
casts only darkness in your eye
for you can never answer why.

In righteousness you seek to be
the magistrate of all you see,
but who will judge the magistrate
who stands before his golden gate?

Scourged with mercy, joyous pain
lets you be yourself again,
screaming at the smiling crowd
casting dice to win your shroud.

Your perfect peace is agonized
and flawless faith is just disguised,
to keep your word in all you said
your unheard promise to the dead.

I'm sure I read this one before, but failed to leave a comment. Again, you have written an astounding piece, full of perfect images. I think I can hear Him say, "Well done, good and faithful servant." The best part, He did it all for humanity--every race, kindred and tongue.

I am the one that read this to iris7s9...I just re-read it again tonight. Something about what is written, something inbetween the words, it seems to stay with me. Can't quite figure out what it might be... but it moves me, it definitely moves me.

Keith-
This is beautiful. My partner read this to me last night and I asked her to read to me again. The visuals of the relgious how they must "magistrate" (love the word btw) it's perfection!

I like your perspective on this. The most memorable line, to me, is "no-one sang Amazing Grace."
There's faith. And then there's religion. This very nicely shows the difference between the two.
