Paranoia
You gift me with subtle signals,
Gentle hints draped in the mantle
Of your romantic shyness.
A thousand times you show
My name is in your heart.
Yet I cannot rest, I cannot be.
Obsessively I look for every flaw
In what should be a perfect
Tapestry.
Seeking that first fatal chink,
Compulsively seizing every
Sign and gesture that could
Mean something is wrong
Then magnifying it until
Its architecture and mass
Occupies all our horizons.
Sorcerous wonderous me
With all this power to create
My greatest fears.
I see the same in you
As you rummage through
The vaults of memory to recall
What I have said, things I have done,
Confessions from my past
As ways to sow seeds of uncertainty
Grow flowers of purest insecurity.
What torture is this that we can
So coldly ply with fervor on ourselves?
How heavy is the past that it can drag
A vessel to these depths, become the
Cornerstone of what should be
A living monument to love
Rendering structure flawed by
The very anchoring premise
In our chain of thought?
I know your cold and clammy name.
I see you well but cannot stay your hand
You stand behind every folly humans
Can conceive.
Fear.
How you become Suspicion

What a romantic write about Paranoia. I think she would succumb to the charm of this piece. Very well expressed.
I doubt she can stay cold and clammy for long...suspicious maybe, that's paranoia's trait. Great write! |

Glad to see you back--though I'm still away myself ;) your ability to convey the nuances of love and life have not dimmed. This stanza spoke to me of our frailty to find fault with what seems to be too good to be true--love.
"Seeking that first fatal chink,
Compulsively seizing every
Sign and gesture that could
Mean something is wrong
Then magnifying it until
Its architecture and mass
Occupies all our horizons.
Sorcerous wonderous me
With all this power to create
My greatest fears."
so true. so true. |

| In total agreement with the others. You've expressed the darker side of human companionship with a sour, intelligent, bittersweet piece. This one is something so different than waht I've come to expect from you, and you've captured feelings we've all come to experience with flawless precision. Nice of you to drop in and present us with this excellent poem. |

The people you present in your poetry are all so alive. The stanza I pasted here shows you at your finest. Not one word out of place. How you go on for 210 words is beyond me. How great it is to be able to read such a poet? |

"Sorcerous wonderous me
With all this power to create
My greatest fears." Great lines. Isn't it amazing how we humans have this amazing capacity to manufacture our own discontent. |
