derangement of the senses works for while
but the slow prevalence of idiot cannabis smile
turns all the later input into rot
the short term memory failing -- all we forgot
could fill the blank pages at which we stare
the desk-lamp and its interrogative glare
does nothing for the peace of mind of the drug-trapped
the notepad empty, pencils in frustration snapped
and then you sit and laugh and do nothing at all
it is amusement, not pride which comes before this fall
taking all that shit makes it hard to maintain
these chemicals really do something to the brain
but you ignore all the people and their predictions
because you look at them and think what do they know of addictions?
the slow slide is a luxury not many are allowed
the bullet always hits the man standing proud
you smoke and drink and snort so you're not a fake
despite the fact that you're courting a psychotic break
your friend went down the same stony path as you
but for somne strange reason you don't accept it as true
you are stronger, you can control the dose you imbibe
your elevated voice drowns out any diatribe
