I've Had a Dream

I've had a dream
As long as I can recall
A dream of a perfect you
A perfect kiss
For an imperfect life

A kiss like a skeleton key
That unlocks the chains
Around my strength
Around my confidence
Around my world

A kiss that un-cages
The lion of my conviction
The elephant of my intellect
The eagle of my wisdom
The mouse that is me

A kiss that lets me become
All the things I've believed I can be
A teacher
A philosopher
A man

A kiss that encourages me to
Stand up to tyranny
Protect the helpless
Help the needy
Dispose of my apathy

I've had a dream
As long as I can recall
But no-one is perfect
And there is no perfect kiss
So I guess it will remain a dream.

The characteristics you dream of displaying are the very things most every woman of integrity desires in a man. Perhaps it is a dream, but are they less important than reality? -Leah

So did you have Pop Tarts for breakfast today?
... just making a silly reference to your Perfect Moment poem ;-)

Anyway, this is a lovely poem here. As I see it, you are searching for a figure who makes you more into the man, and meanwhile you have poetically defined yourself so exquisitely. Did you know you can be that man already without her? Then you just might find her walking magically into your life.

Cheers to the eagle, protector, teacher, philosopher...
Mwah!

The difference between a dream of going from mouse to man is simply a matter of taking the first step in the right direction.

"A dream of a perfect you / A perfect kiss / For an imperfect life".

Not a lot you can say about that.

Perfectly bookshelved with the not-quite-repetition of your first and last stanzas. Yeah, great write.

Romantic till the end, which is sad. Nothing is ever perfect but what we make of it.
