The Circle

Little girl with a head full of silky curly hair
With the brownest eyes I have ever seen
Wow can you scream, I make a note as'
That will come in handy later

I take inventory, the right amount of fingers and toes.
A cute button nose and I am speechless
But not without tears, as the emotion spills over.

I have created this object D'art.
With some help from him of course
I motion in the corner, to your Daddy
Huddled on the phone spreading the word

he is so proud of himself.

My Daddy so proud of me is hovering'
He remembers, the day I came
He talks of missing my Mom.
And of how she and I look the same.

He says I look tired,
So he takes you from my arms and as I fall asleep'.

Out of one eye I see'.

A freckle on your face, a 'Tina Louise'
You are only 4 hours old
Already the knees are buckling
Swaying the affection
Of your Daddy and mine.

In your direction

simply moving- and charmed. "Out of one eye. . ." from there on this couldn't be more perfectly formed and naturally presented, like the miracle herself. Glory and folksy in a small space.

Nice poem on a universal topic: babies power to wrap us around their tiny fingers. Does "The Circle" refer to the family circle of you and your husband and your dad?

Not a maternal person (the idea of having kids sends me into a cold sweat), but still appreciate the way you capture the emotions of a proud parent.

Like the sense of taking stock of new arrivals and those departed.
