Racist

The assumption is that I don't give a damn
Cause I exist in silence
Instead of reacting with violence
Each time we cross paths

I am not stupid, lazy or useless
I have ideas and dreams
This job is just an end to my means
And I am starting to get your message

I wont ever be good enough
Because of the color of my skin
Or the box you have chosen to put me in

Some very hard truths lie within your words. Nothing is worse than the assumption that we are nothing based on another person's viewpoint. You prove your worth with every eloquent word you write, no one who hears what you have to say could deny that. Labels and boxes are horrible things to find ourselves entrapped by. Only by our voices can we truly be heard and yours is loud and clear!

Oh wonderful! I love it and must bookshelf it. I HATE boxes and you've captured this subject so well here. There will always be people, IMO, that will always be racist. What a shame. Great write.

Beautifully stated. I don't think ppl realize sometimes what they can do with just a look, never mind words. Your poem makes up for that by telling them. As Jay said, it should be on billboards everywhere.

This is very strong. And each word needs to be said. In every line you stay true to your message. This is very well done.

Very powerful in a few words. Lets me know what it's like to be the target of racism. I wonder if the racist is concious of the attitude he's putting out?
