Blocked? Not really.
In writing
The most stressful part
I have found
Is the urgent need to produce
Constantly
The pipes get clogged
Too many ideas
Words and stanzas
Trying to gush out
All at once
Really inhibits
The writer's soul
When blocked
The best remedy
I have found
Is to convince
I mean really convince
One's self to stop producing
At all
Let the pipes drain
Ideas start drying up
Become brittle and fall out
Making room
For better ones
Whenever
I've laid my pen to rest
Really given up on writing
For 2, maybe 3 weeks
Decided, 'Goddamn it! This is it!'
POW!
That's when it smacks me
5 minutes later
I'm shitting out words
Like soft serve ice cream
15 minutes later
3 poems are complete
And good, I mean really good
This is not
One of those poems

| "Like soft serve ice cream" - doesn't get much more visual than that. Ex-lax for poets. |
