Knives

When knives rust and spades snap
And meat and soil are uncut
(Though sun burns and candle glows)
Because this man and his wife have died,
Do not forget me.

Breathless on golden cap
You may see the far sea towns,
Caravan sites and cattle.
Remembering the dog rose cottage,
Do not forget me.

In upper place or street,
In the northernmost harbour,
In the steep lanes sliding down
To beach, to smoky bar, to castle,
Do not forget me.

The travels described are wonderful and the "begging" to not be forgotten echoes long after the poem is read. - Leah
