These Miles That Separate Us

A dedication to all those people that have lost someone close and also my late sister. May they all rest in peace.

There are a million miles that divide us
With as many years that cultivate
the spider webs forming upon the ceilings.
Silky arachnid tethers encase my eyes shut'¦
so that I can never see you grow older.
The mouths of many say that passing away
into a room is as natural as breathing.
As if the air perculating through my nose
is the same as a person who shed their last breath.
I can talk to the air for most of my waking hours
and be viewed as man who has lost himself
and yet not hear any replies upon open ears.
Futility is winding the clock backwards
like wanting to progress to a state of innocence.
Edifices that meander as I walk on highways
where I am a lone traveller in a fabled mind.
I still think about you and how you become vivid
as the tide reverberates through neural cables
but the ethereal dissipates as you melt'¦
I just have to wake up and you saunter
through dark woods lying in wait.
So for now a million years will pass
and I will age through watching the acid
rain nibbling away at my memories.
I hope I can make those few steps'¦
maybe I will meet her halfway.

As a person who has lost someone recently, you have captured all of the emotions I too have felt. Beautiful, Beautiful, Beautiful!

Briiliant, you have transformed the tragedy of loosing some-one close, to the inevitability of death into a powerful and peaceful peice, not many poets have the ability to do that. Thanx for sharing

This is very sad and poignant. I haven't lost anyone, but I can already feel the sadness and loneliness of this poem.

I can talk to the air for most of my waking hours
and be viewed as man who has lost himself
and yet not hear any replies upon open ears.

This lines make me cry. Thank you for the great read!

quite an incredible tribute piece here (you seem to have penchant for writing these kinda pieces). I can feel the depth, caring, and sadness here most intensely. On the technical side (and I hate to actually critique so personal a piece but..) some of the word choices don't feel quite right. e.g.-'encase' in ln4, 'perculating' ln8.

truly touching with some classic lines, Mish. peace to you, sweetie.
