up for 36 hours

My mind filled with the tight fuzzyness
that only no sleep can bring

I stumble through the day
tripping on ideas
bumping into everyday complexity

Temporarily one of the undead
I shamble

At the chain hair salon
the hyper asian hummingbird
flits about my head

her sounds and motions
spoken in a language of speed
that I am unable to translate

I catch myself jerking awake
a small but spastic twitch
had I been asleep?

Finally home
the kitchen holds no appeal
my only desire is
to feast
on sleep

Sometimes I do not go to sleep on purpose. I have nightmares. I feel like I am in a Freddy Cruger movie. LOL

Love the last stanza! Great images. (fuzzyness should be fuzziness) I think we can all relate to these feelings and reactions! Again, nice job on a topic we tend to ignore. Teri

Haven't we all been there. Living in a daze of lack of sleep.
I love the lines
"At the chain hair salon
the hyper asian hummingbird
flits about my head

her sounds and motions
spoken in a language of speed
that I am unable to translate"

a great poem. I enjoyed it.
