TRUTH

It has been a year
Since we've seen each other
Almost a year since we've talked on the phone
So many things have happened since then
So where else could I begin other than one word'?
Truth

There have been so many lies
But not just between me and you
But with our closest friends, too'
How could you do this to us?
Why couldn't you just tell us'?
Truth

The last time I saw you
I could tell that you were changing
You weren't the same
It wasn't the real you
A fake, not the
Truth

I want the old friend that would say
'I can't believe you're leaving!'
'I can't wait to see you!'
Recently, there has been no reaction to my voice
No reaction to the
Truth

I haven't heard from you in forever
You were always so close
Like a sister
But you're distant now
Where are you? Where is the'
Truth

We all told you
Not to go down that road
That you were making the wrong decisions
But you didn't listen'
Never listened to the
Truth

More lies in my life
More emotions
More actions
They weren't for the better
It felt like no one in my life was telling me the
Truth

I found out
From what used to be your best friend
But she is still mine'
That you messed up
That you weren't telling the
Truth

She said that you
Went to a party
Little did you know that
The ecstasy was laced with meth
You're new 'friends' didn't tell YOU the
Truth

All you told was lies
To me
To your parents
To all of the friends that actually cared about you
We ALL knew the
Truth

That you were a smart woman
A nice,
A creative,
A loving woman
But what have you turned into now?
Only someone who can't tell the
Truth

Do you know what you have caused?
Do you know how this has affected everyone around you?
Me,
Your real friend,
Your parents?
Sure, they may not be your real parents
But they love you
WE ALL love you
Can't you realize this?!?!?

You have people in your life that love you
People that care about you
People that WON'T lead you to do drugs
To go down the wrong road
To screw up your whole life

Why couldn't you just have told us'?

I appreciate the personification of "truth" as it develops throughout the piece, first the genuine but innocent loss of a friend that rears its ugly head as drug abuse. This "truth" has a haunting effect on the reader. It challenges me to confront the seemingly innocent "little lies" in my life with the goal of developing the ideal "truth" in my relationships. Well done!

Wow, kiddo...
Very well done. Very emotional and heart-felt. The flow is a bit sketchy, but it mimics the theme of the poem... the sketchy truth.
You make Momma proud!
