ode to a Frogger
embodiment of youthful vigor past
you stand
cracked around the edges
but still longing
for the cry of youth
but today's children have moved on
to more sophisticated games
now a cellphone is considered
more entertaining than your
blips and bleeps
however heartfelt they may be
even I, your loving caretaker
have left you
in a dusty corner of the basement
unmaintained
unplayed
unremarked
your only momentary thrill
when the cat jumps up on you
perhaps she wants a game?
but she is only seeking
the highest point
to rest upon
now I have put you up for sale
your fate adrift on digital waters
I wait for the seekers
the few remaining Captain Ahabs
willing to quest after you
I feel I have betrayed you
I have failed to enshrine you,
to preserve you eternally
as you, a relic of the past, deserve
the feeling is momentary
my email blings, someone
has made an offer
less than you are worth
but the time has come
to part ways
so I accept
and move on

| I can't believe a poem about frogger has made me so sad. Maybe I'm just emotional right now (lol) but you actually created a really sad, regretful poem about a video game. :) nice. |

lol- I love this. I used to play Frogger all of the time but, yes, technology has murdered our faves of the past and brought to life the virtual world where we can kill each other, run each other over or play God with "real sounds" and "Life-like characters".
Great write! Yvylyn |
