Slavery
Drowsy amber lamps cast dim shadows upon
Harlequin pavement
Streetcorners... weathered by the relentless pounding of
Heel to toe, Heel to toe
Boots hopelessly locked in mechanical, precise rhythm
Leather cracking under the strain of another recession
Which was promptly dismissed today by wrinkled expressions
Wrapped in tired suits
Urging people to spend more than they have invested
In apple pie, Elvis, and baseballs
