I had this one belief

See I had this one idea, I had this one belief,
That you were mine and no one else's, that I'd
One day marry you, but belief and idea that's
All that was, no truth, no love, no certainty,
So I shouldn't blame you, I shouldn't blame you
For leaving, but I do, and perhaps, I think, or
Know, perhaps I always will, cuz I had this one
Belief, I retained just one belief, a firm and
Unwavering trust in you, now look at me, look
At this wreck you left behind, no drama, no pleas
Or cries, just this proof in front of you,
You ripped my heart in two, and left me only these
Pieces to remind me, remind me of my foolishness, of
My once whole, my once blind, and deceptive heart,
Just this souvenir, I suppose I should thank you for
Teaching me this lesson, but don't hold your breath,
Cuz I doubt I ever will.

Deacon, this poem does a good job of focusing on the pain of loss. It is often very difficult to express this sort of pain in such a short space, but I think that you have accomplished it well. --Robert Barlow
