Hiding
A girl leaves her light on and doesn't sleep.
Her bed sheets hug the mattress for warmth in her absence.
Staring out the window until the sun comes back she waits,
to be taken to anywhere else.
Hoping a passerby will see she is there, not wanting to be in the dark.
At 7 years her fairy night-light provokes monsters,
and foreign shapes away.
So all is safe.
A family goes away for vacation,
leaving hallway lights on to pretend
routine life in the midst of silent dark.
We drive at night with headlights to brightly announce our presence.
In backyard forests and country quilts,
the sun's sleeping luminations dim, laying
slight glows among all below. Nature's night-light,
Showing just as much as should be seen.
