METUO

My palms are clammy. A bead of sweat slowly trickles down my forehead, before stinging my eye. I blink hard to get rid of it. Must compose myself. Can't let them see I'm scared. That's showing weakness. Why am I here? What have I done to deserve this? I don't know the answer to either of these questions. My heart starts beating a polka in my chest; rapidly becoming a heavy garage beat. If I could hook up a sound system to my chest I could make a fortune. That is if I survive today. Suddenly a thought crosses my mind and I look round frantically. It's as I feared I'm alone! There's no one to help me. I can see them getting closer. There's no way out. I have no other choice. The first one reaches me. I swallow hard, and then somehow manage to get out the words.
'Excuse me sir, would you like to try a grape? We have them on special offer today.'

It has a weird sense of humor to it, maybe it is just the Polka reference. That music almost makes me giggle every time I hear it.

Interesting story. I enjoyed reading this and was quite surprised by the outcome. Some people have a real problem interacting with other people, expecially if they come on too strong. Perhaps this could lead onto a sour-grapes type of epilogue.

Wonderfully executed. I especially love the catch at the end.

I know I probably shouldn't laugh because, as Sheri says, there are some people who are totally phobic, but the end - I expected something so different and when I read "grape", I had to laugh. Great write. T. xo
